When researching ways to give back to NYC, a city that we have called home for over 10 years, we found the City Parks Foundation.  They host free concerts in NYC parks through out the summer!  Right up our alley 🙂  Good music, good vibes, and outdoors!  We signed up for John Butler Trio, a band we have seen one or two times, at the Summer Stage in Central Park.  When you walk into Central Park you almost forget where you are.  That is the best part about it–an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city while staying right at home.  When we arrived here we got our volunteer shirts and were given the duty of letting VIP’s into the bleacher section of the venue.  Kahlil left us with some words of wisdom for evening “Just have fun, don’t take any task to seriously, you have to let loose once in awhile”…ok by us! Our task was pretty easy, got to see some friends who were checkin’ out the show, and we danced and had a little fun too!

The most  touching part of the show came when the band announced that a group traveled from Colorado to see the show.  They had seen the band in Colorado the week prior and on their friend was tragically killed after the show.  You truly never know when it will be your last day, night, show, etc.  Give back and touch others lives when you can!   Volunteering with these nice people that evening (in the heat!) was well worth the time.  Free concerts at the Summer Stage wouldnt be possible without volunteers.  People of all ages need some sense of relief from the busy, city life and what better way to do it then out in nature, the beautiful Central Park with good vibes! It is certainly good for the soul!
