Habitat for Humanity – Nashville

Today was our third day on the road and our first day of volunteer work. We had arranged this opportunity prior to leaving NYC. The plan worked out well and we went to work at a Habitat for Humanity branch in the Nashville Restore.
Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Since founded in 1976 they have surpassed building 1 million homes to people in the US. The restores are also nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that provide home furnishings, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. This particular restore in Nashville built 42 homes in 2014.
Today, we used our Fashion Institute of Technology Fashion Merchandising degrees to use and gave the store a facelift. We helped organize the retail space and made it customer friendly. We learned a lot about paint, to say the least. We also helped customers with their personal home projects.
Our new friend Tim, and the store manager told us we were invaluable to the store and we are welcome back anytime. It was then that our hearts smiled and the beginning of what started out as a dream became reality.
He also told us we couldn’t miss a happy hour honkey tonk and away we were…
